‘A plane exploded’: Aiken County had a fiery moment in Air Force history 50 years ago

A routine training mission came to a fiery end around 12:22 p.m. on Sept. 3, 1975, and a day after the crash, an Aiken Standard report recalled a police radio noting, “A plane exploded.”
