AIKEN MASTER GARDENERS: Spanish moss is the pride of the coastal South

In the Lowcountry, live oaks are lavishly decorated in gray-bearded Spanish moss. Why aren’t live oaks lining South Boundary and in Hopelands also heavily festooned in moss? There’s plenty of resurrection fern (Pleopeltis polypodioides) lining the branches, but no moss.
